SharcNET provides access to a wide variety of resources, and it is not obvious how to choose the best one. This talk will describe some of the fundamental properties of SharcNET facilities, and discuss types of workflow that can take the best advantage of them. CPU, memory, interconnect and filesystem performance will be discussed, as well as comments on how best to interact with the scheduler.
