This seminar serves as an introduction to Linux, a UNIX-like operating system that runs on all SHARCNET systems, and SHELL, a command-line interpreter (a part of Linux). It is intended for users who have little or no experience with UNIX or LINUX, and little or no experience with using the command line interface (CLI) that provides a greater control in accessing, manipulating and executing programs than the Graphical User Interface (GUI). The seminar will help you develop an understanding of the Linux command line environment, which is necessary for the successful use of the SHARCNET facilities, including basic commands for file/directory management and SHELL script programming.
